Current World Salsa Champions 2007-2008 UK & European Tour....

Ola Latina are proud to announce the forthcoming UK and European Summer Tour for the Current World Salsa Dance Champions, Jhon Vasquez & Judy Aguilar (from Cali, Colombia).  Jhon and Judy will be visiting the UK and Europe from the 20th June to 10th August this year.

Formerly part of the triple World Salsa Dance troupe Swing Latino, Jhon and Judy have an extensive record of achievements in their own right; they have been twice Colombian National Champions in 2005 and 2006, Cali World Salsa Festival Champions in 2006, World runners up in the World Salsa Championships in 2006, twice World Salsa Team Champions with Swing Latino and now current World Salsa Dance Champions 2007-2008 in the cabaret category open to all styles.

Salsa dancers from Cali, Colombia have continued to establish their pedigree around the world, last December in the third World Salsa Championships in Orlando, Florida they finished first and second in the Cabaret division, while in the Teams competition, Cali Salsa teams finished first, second and third, with groups as large as 20 members.

The world has finally taken note of Cali's particular Salsa style, 'The piston-footed, below-the-waist style of dancing salsa developed during the last 40 years in Cali, Colombia’s Southwestern city, has been dropping jaws since 2005, from Wellington, New Zealand, to Salt Lake City...'Dancers worldwide are taking note', says Albert Torres, a member of the Salsa Seven and the driving force behind the World Championships...The success caleños have seen, combined with the growth of the championships, is leading thousands in Cali to dream of hopping and stepping out of misery... the dancers from Cali, says Torres, .. are “the future of Salsa.” Timothy Pratt, 'Salsa Dancers from Cali, Colombia' in ReVista, Harvard Review of Latin America, Volume VII, No. 1, Fall 2007, p. 39 (Harvard University).

Salsa in Cali is a way of life, it is the identity and heartbeat of the city and Salsa dancing has become an art, the city has more than 50 professional schools with over 8,000 dancers from as young as 5 years old. Their own Cali World Salsa Festival in September is the city's biggest showcase for hundreds of the best dancers from these schools, with the winners gaining the right to represent Cali in the World Salsa Championships in the US in December.
